lionstorm the deputy padded into camp as he was returning from the dawn patrol. he looked around camp and saw that activity was still low. " i wonder where everyone is" he mewed

Foxpaw rushed over to Lionstorm, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "I'm going to be just like you some day!" she yowled.

lionstorm laughed shortly, then stared off at the pile of fresh kill. it was low. he hoped the hunting patrol would set off soon.

Ic: Foxpaw laid down next to Lionstorm. "Leaf-bare will be leaf-bare, Lionstorm. But we always make it through somehow, now don't we?" Her green eyes gazed up at her mentor, and her orange pelt brushed against his as she got up and made her way to the Apprentice's den.

"I was just going out to catch some fresh kill. If you hadn't noticed it's low, and everyone else is just sleeping. I'm not going to wait here to get a job with the elders!" she mewed sternly, and then added, "I'm going to be useful to my Clan. I'm only doing what's right." she stared at him innocently.

"well your not doing anyone much good if you got hurt out here with no one to help you." he replied. "how about i go with you. we can work on your hunting skills, and this way ill know how your training is doing you might be a warrior soon."

lionstorm laughed. "i won't as long as you keep that tail from scaring all the prey from here to fourtrees!" he called as he watched her tail lashing. then he raced off into the brambles, not waiting for a reply.

Foxpaw stifled a laugh. She wasn't going to let him catch everything without her! She stiffened her tail as she rushed after him, swerving through the trees until she spotted a mouse. She gradually slowed her pace and stalked up to it, body and ears flattened. She pounced when she was close enough, but the mouse had already heard her and scuffled off. She saw Lionstorm watching her and her ears got hot with embarressment. She just let her mentor watch her fail!

She was calmed by his soothing voice, and a rumble began in her throat. But she was still sticky with embarrassment. Foxpaw suddenly stiffened. She smelled something she had never smelled before. She wanted to ask what it was, but her mouth was too clogged with the scent for her to speak. She wrinkled her nose up from the stench. What IS that?
